Either press the End key on your keyboard or click the green progress bar and then ‘Bottom’.
I like XenForo more. Simpiler.
I am surprised no one has mentioned NodeBB.
NodeBB was certainly looked at.
I had no idea what Discourse was until Sponge.
Now I love it
I made this point before and I’ll restate it for the main reason of this forums source will not work well with the development side. What will we do to advertise plugins and mods? How will we keep our posts updated and easy to find? For example, if I were to search on the board a plugin named, who knows, “Portals”, there could be 1000 posts with the term “portals” in it, including help topics or people just using that word. Will there be a different forums source for the actual development side vs this community forums? Even though we still have a while this should be taken into consideration.
Edit: Updating grammar and spelling mistakes.
I don’t understand why this is a problem, new activity in a topic tends to move that topic further up towards the top when listing topics.
Searching has more under the hood and more complex of a problem than you think. At least according to Atwood search has its nuances. Who knows if it will be enough, but already you can limit the scope of your search to a category or user which will hopefully narrow it down by quite a bit.
just dont like this to difficult to find things.this seems more like a facebook social site rather then a hosting site for a minecraft platform
I guess I just find pages easier to use and navigate with. On my older computer, the long pages freeze up my browser. It just makes using the Sponjge Forums a tedious task.
My guess is most people find it easier because that is what they are use to, even though I would argue pages are worse in terms of conversation flow. Office had the same issue when they switched to the ribbon ui in 2007. The ribbon is vastly superior, but because it wasn’t a rote memorization habit people hated it.
I should also note that Vanilla (the forums) offers support for both old style categories and newer comprehensive views
same here the “infinite” pages makes my slow school pc slower, it acts like I am watching a video aka heats up and everything but the vid gets really slow.
I personally prefer XenForo over Discourse. As others have said, it feels more like a social network than a forum. To me it seems a lot more focused on continuous conversation than the conveyance of information. I think XenForo just offers the more superior offering and capabilities, XF could be used for the entire website instead of just forums and with the resource manager could be used to host plugins.
All forum software is different and to me, XF is better.
I just personally feel like it’s unorganized(by the way wow I made a lot of mistakes in that paragraph). Mainly because the home page combines all boards into one feed, which is fine for now, but eventually there is going to be tons of different boards. Plugin support, plugin advertisement, maybe even server advertisement. Also if it’s going to become more of a community forum there’s going to need to be community based boards, like music, video games, un-related programming projects, off-topic/general discussion boards, etc. For how big I see this forum community growing, I don’t feel like Discourse will take the cheese. That is just my personal opinion as I’ve worked with more organized, standard forum sources like PHPbb, NodeBB, IPB, MyBB, and similar other boards. Is Discourse unique, sleek, and ease-of-use? Definitely. But organizational structure compared to other board sources? I personally think it lacks.
Same, Its Well… Different
I have changed my opinion.
I used to like Discourse, but for a frequent poster like me, it starts to become overwhelming;
So I’d kinda like to see a traditional forum software.
I haven’t found how to correctly show java code.
But the general feeling feels meh on discourse. Thedailywtf also uses it now and it feels like a downgrade there too.
```java
public class Bleh {
}
```
produces
public class Bleh {
}
nice! thanks for that
public static interface class abstract object Obj extends Object implements Interface {
}
